Meet the Faculty

JJ Sylvia

Communications Media Faculty
Dr. Sylvia has an M.A. in Philosophy and a Ph.D. in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media and he is deeply interested in the overlap between these fields. In his research and teaching, he explores how technologies and media – from the telegraph to big data and cryptocurrencies – have changed what it means to be human. He’s also an avid traveler who has visited countries throughout South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. He previously visited Greece in 2007 as part of a backpacking trip across Europe.

What to Expect!

We’ll take a day trip to Delphi, considered by the Greeks to be the center point of the Earth. The Oracle’s shrine still stands today, and we’ll reflect on how this location played a pivotal role in the history of both philosophy and communication. We’ll also explore the Acropolis in Athens, one of the most iconic sights in history. Finally, we will visit the National Archaeological Museum, considered one of the greatest museums in the entire world!
