Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is a mineral-rich, geo-thermally heated spa and pool on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland. It’s famous for its relaxing and restoring properties, due in part to the high sulfur and silica content in its vibrant blue water.  Situated in the midst of a black lava field, the Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most popular tourist destinations—thousands of people each year enjoy its soothing waters.

Did you know?

  • Iceland has a strict code of hygiene, and visitors are required to shower before and after entering the Lagoon.
  • Because so many people have found relief from their various ailments in the waters of this geothermal spa, the Blue Lagoon operates a research facility to develop cures for various skin conditions using the mineral-rich water.
