At this season’s conferences, you’ll be surrounded by other music educators. In day-to-day life, however, it can be tough to spot your fellow directors. Here’s a list of key indicators that you’re in the presence of another conductor.
Serious hair game
Talks with his or her hands.
Owns several music pun items.
Office decor theme is sheet music – everywhere.
Has a calendar with nary a free weekend.
Wardrobe is made up of black, black, and more black.
Exaggerated facial expressions are the norm.
. . . as is dramatic body language.
Strong opinions on batons, podiums, and stands.
Is happiest when making music.
