AHSTF 2016: Greetings from Edinburgh!

Greetings from Edinburgh!

American High School Theatre Festival 2016 is officially underway! This year’s groups have spent the last few days sightseeing around London, participating in a workshop at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, and attending West End shows like Wicked and Kinky Boots.

Wicked on West End AHSTF

This morning, still excited about our trips to West End last night, we boarded coaches bound for Edinburgh. We rolled through the beautiful English and Scottish countryside, playing games, singing – tunes from Hamilton were especially popular – and trying to spot Highland cows.

Once we safely arrived in Scotland, we gathered our luggage and checked into our rooms after a brief orientation, then tucked in for dinner. Afterward, some of us rehearsed while others set out in groups to explore the area before turning in for the night. One of our groups found a man swallowing swords on the Royal Mile!

Tomorrow begins our technical rehearsals which we are looking forward to. Some groups are planning to hike Arthur’s Seat bright and early while others are planning a walking tour of Scotland with some of our favorite Blue Badge Guides. Still others are signing up for a haunted tour of the city! Festival Fringe starts in earnest on August 5, but the excitement throughout Edinburgh is palpable.

We’ll be live blogging each day, as well as posting throughout the day on Facebook and our brand new Instagram. Be sure to follow us for all the updates and visit AHSTF 2016 Lineup for a schedule of all of our shows.

And if you’re with us at Festival Fringe, don’t forget to tag us (@AHSTFTheatre) in your photos! Use hashtags #EdFringe, #AHSTF2016, and #StudentTheatreDoneRight so we can see your photos – we’ll share our favorites!

We’re also excited to reveal our AHSTF custom emojis! For instructions on how to use them, go to our Custom Emojis page (more coming soon!).

Cheers!
