Like many of you, I am an immigrant. I came to the United States when I was 27 years old from my native Uzbekistan. I had to overcome cultural and language barriers. It was not easy to learn how to drive a car, to raise children and not to lose myself in domestic chores. All the stereotypes about America that I had developed by watching Hollywood movies back in Uzbekistan were shattered after my arrival in the States. Yet, I always believed in education, and once I realized that I have a passion for accounting and helping people in the community overcome challenges that are similar to those I confronted, I experienced a new sense of fulfillment. Prior to joining College of Alameda as a fulltime tenured faculty I have taught at Laney Community College as an adjunct instructor. I have been teaching accounting as an intern with Faculty Diversity Internship Program at Laney Community College and prior to that I was an Accounting Tutor there for 4years. I gained my experience as a tax preparer with Eckhoff Accountancy CPA firm, in San Rafael and worked as a Bookkeeping Consultant with Hilliard Management Group in Oakland. Currently I hold several awards: National Association of Black Accountants Scholarship for scholastic achievement and outstanding leadership, San Francisco; Financial Women's Association of San Francisco Scholarship in Financial Leadership for Graduate Students, San Francisco. Cal CPA Scholarship, San Francisco. In terms of education: I earned my Masters of Accountancy degree at Golden Gate University. I also have a Master Degree in Russian Studies from the European University of St. Petersburg, Russia, as well as a Masters in Sociology from the Manchester University. My Bachelor Degree in Mathematics I earned from Tashkent University, Tashkent.
