Why Ireland?
Literary and cinematic works will be drawn from the long tradition of Irish poetry, fiction, and drama. Students will also explore the cinematic output of Ireland. The course and international experience will examine the use of narrative as a medium to share the Irish experience, both in Ireland and the United States. Students will explore the inspirations, contexts and spaces storytellers used in the development of their narrative works. Students develop critical skills necessary to explore literary narratives. The course content will be delivered by scholars both from Ireland and the United States.

Meet the Faculty

Professor Edward A. Shannon

Professor
Edward A. Shannon is Professor of Literature and former Convener of Literature at Ramapo College of NJ, where he teaches American literature. He frequently writes about American folksinger Woody Guthrie and was named 2005 Woody Guthrie fellow by the Guthrie foundation. He has also published on Mark Twain, Patricia Highsmith and comic books and strips, including George Herriman’s Krazy Kat, Art Spiegelman’s Maus, Winsor McCay’s Little Nemo in Slumberland and Robert Crumb’s autobiographical comics.
